Erie Pa, Presque Isle State Park, June 24, 2015

Today was a beautiful day to travel, light winds and smooth seas. I was able to sit out in the sun again. We left Geneva at 7:10 and arrived at the anchorage in Erie Pa at 1:15. So we traveled 50.3 miles in 6 hours and 5 minutes. Average speed was 8.2 knots, high speed was 9.3. We bought our first fuel at the park marina, 42.8 gallons. So far we have traveled 118.8 miles with an average use of 2.9 gallons an hour with an average speed of about 8.3 knots. Not too bad. As it turns out, we would have had to motor all the way in Excalibur as the winds have not been favorable for sailing, although we would have only used about 2 gallons of fuel. However, motoring Annie is much more pleasant than motoring Excalibur. I was able to get the trip odometer and regular odometer to read the same, as shown below.

We got killed with bugs again. Jim arrived without any! Lucky for him, bummer for us. Kerry used the marina fuel dock hose for about 20 minutes and washed them all away.

Along the way I was reading the chartplotter manual trying to figure out how to measure the distance between two points. I was not successful, but I did discover how to make fish show up really neat on my fishfinder!

I arrived first for the second time in a row. So, I got to catch his docklines for a change. Obviously this is because Jim leaves a lot later than we do. He tried going slower today to lower his fuel consumption, going about 14 knots. He is getting 1.1 miles per gallon.

On the way to the anchorage we passed Misery Bay, and a monument dedicated to Admiral Perry. This is where the American fleet that defeated the British in the Battle of Lake Erie was made.

We are at anchor now. Since we arrived first, Jim rafted off of us. After dinner he will separate and anchor on his own. This is the only the second time we have anchored Annie. As many of you know, the first try resulted in Kerry cutting her fingers badly, then falling in the hospital and breaking her kneecap! So far, much better this time.

We are expecting some storms tomorrow, and rough seas. Friday is forecast to be nice. If the forecast is correct, we may stay here two nights, skip Dunkirk, NY and steam to Port Colborne directly from here on Friday. I really like the Dunkirk Yacht Club so I hope we do get to go there. It is built out over the water, and when you are in the heads you can see the sea between the gaps in the floor boards. We would save about 10 miles, or 10 gallons of fuel for Jim, if we went directly to Port Colborne.

The fishermen were really up and at them today. Motors were starting at 4:00 AM. Jim and I decided to use the fisherman test to see if we should travel. If they don’t go out, we better ask ourselves if we should be going out!

Last night we debated what we should call Jola because of the special treatment Jim gives her. You know, Kerry is the princess on Annie. We decided Jola will be the Duchess, the Duchess of Liberty. We do treat our ladies well!

Cocktails are at 5:00. Dinner will be grilled hamburgers for us, and a veggie burger for the Duchess.
