Geneva State Park Marina June 23, 2015

It sure did not take Lake Erie long to change our schedule. We decided to sat at Geneva today rather than push on to Erie Harbor. The seas are large enough that the 48 mile trip would have been rather uncomfortable. And perhaps more important, Jola really wanted to stay over rather than travel on an iffy day. Since we planned to anchor two nights in Erie anyway, we can just stay one night and still be on schedule. We do want Jola to enjoy this trip. All the fishing charters were canceled today also.

We started the day with a nice breakfast at the marina. We just split a bacon/egg/potato/toast breakfast, but it was huge. We each had what we thought was a full meal. The cook said that was the regular portion size. She didn't believe people could eat so much, but I guess the fishermen get hungry pulling in those big one.

I called Garmin and got an explanation of why the two odometer readings were different, and a suggested change that might make them the same. I can email it to anyone who is interested. It has to do with readings at different times and a straight line course verses what the boat actually travels.

We biked to town and around a bike path provided by the State Park. There is a nice beach at the Park which I was not aware existed. The town of Geneva On The Lake is just as I remembered. Nothing too much appeals to me, although there are some fun arcades for kids and a nice miniature golf course. It was really a beautiful ride though. The sky is as blue as a Florida sky thanks to a nice batch of high pressure that promises us a great boating day tomorrow. It turns out that we made the right decision to stay. The lake is really rough. The only boats we saw on the lake were two freighters.

We had cocktails and dinner on Annie's upper deck. The winds had diminished and it was very pleasant. Kerry made her famous black bean salad. Jola made her famous potato salad. Beets, chicken salad and other goodies completed the meal. Tomorrow at anchor we plan to do hamburgers and a veggie burger for Jola.

The forecast is very favorable for the 48 mile trip to Erie. Jim and I plan to have coffee before we shove off. I imagine we will leave before Liberty, although Jim has been reviewing his numbers for fuel usage and thinks he may save a lot of gallons by going slower, which is not what he thought initially. The first boat to arrive will anchor, and the second boat will raft along side, until after dinner when the second boat will break raft and anchor.
